Helang Books is a small, independent publishing house.
We are an imprint of Archipelago Consultancy, a Singapore-based consultancy providing high-quality services in the areas of Research, Heritage, Education and Creativity.
Helang Books has carved its niche in publishing important books that have earned recognition and won prestigious awards.

Beginnings

It was Asia Jofrie, Hidayah Amin’s mother, who encouraged Hidayah to document her family stories. Hidayah founded
Helang Books when no publisher wanted to publish her first
book, ‘Gedung Kuning: Memories of a Malay Childhood’.
And the rest is history.
Why the name Helang?
There are two stone eagles guarding the gates of Gedung Kuning (Yellow Mansion), Hidayah's childhood home in Kampong Gelam, Singapore. The eagle symbolises courage, wisdom and foresight.
The ‘e’ in Helang (logo) looks the opposite way to emphasise the importance of always looking at matters from another perspective.
